Ghost (1990)
Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) and Molly Jenson (Demi Moore) appear to have it all. They have good jobs - Sam's a banker and Molly's an artist - and have just moved into their new apartment. They also have a great close friend, Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn). But their perfect life comes to an abrupt end when Sam is killed in what initially appears to be a mugging gone wrong.
It seems that, despite his death, Sam's time on Earth isn't completely up. His soul remains, and it inhabits his ghostly body. He's invisible to all but other ghosts, and is free to wander the Earth as he pleases, and to observe the activities of the living. Naturally, he spends his time most of his time with Molly, but also begins learning the truth about his death, and that Molly is also in danger. He also learns that he can conjure up poltergeist-type abilities, and, most importantly, can communicate with a spiritualist, Oda Mae Brown (Whoopie Goldberg), much to the surprise of both him and Oda Mae herself. With his spooky powers, and the help of Oda Mae, he sets out to right some wrongs.
It's hard to categorise what genre Ghost actually is. It's a fantasy, it's a romantic comedy, it's even a thriller. Whatever it is, it works really well together.
