Lifeforce (1985)
A space shuttle mission discovers a mysterious craft hiding inside Halley’s Comet. Inside? Some very naked, very shiny humanoid aliens. Naturally, they bring them back to Earth. What could possibly go wrong?
What follows is part Alien, part Hammer horror, part Doctor Who, and somehow all at once. A ridiculously attractive alien "space vampire" (Mathilda May) drains energy instead of blood, leading to some gloriously over-the-top shriveled corpses and apocalyptic chaos in London. Some important-sounding British people try to bore each other senseless while discussing the best way of tackling the situation. Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart has, well, I dunno. A couple of strange situations I suppose. And Colonel Tom Carlsen (Steve Railsback), who was an astronaut on the shuttle that brought the vampire aliens back to Earth, and now has a strange connection with the beautiful female one, shouts his way through every moment.
Lifeforce is ambitious, it's grotesque, and at times impressive, but it swings between serious sci-fi and absolute madness so hard that it’s hard to know whether to laugh or gape. And, what on earth did Patrick Stewart let them do to him?
