Poster for Whisky Galore!

In 1943, the remote Scottish island of Todday is largely unaffected by the Second World War. Its distant location means that it isn't really under any threat of invasion, and life continues there relatively peacefully. But this blessing is also its curse, as the island relies on supplies coming from the mainland, and wartime rationing means that incoming supplies are limited. Tragedy strikes when the island runs out of whisky. The islanders, who are quite partial to a wee dram, or two, or three, sink into a depression. The mourn the loss of their beloved Scotch, resorting to having to survive on water or lemonade instead. That is, until, the cargo ship SS Cabinet Minister, runs aground nearby. The locals rescue the crew, and discover that the ship is carrying 50,000 cases of whisky.
